Sometimes your desire for life
can push you beyond your comfort zone
past any limits you thought you had
like the marathon runner, determined
to keep going until the final touchline
you find the stamina and endurance
from a source you cannot name
and place one foot and then another on the unbroken trail
until that magical moment when you seamlessly breakthrough
into the zone of effortless effort
and suddenly a much bigger energy is running through you
and your feet barely touch the ground
desire has swept you off your feet
and scooped you into a brave and strong embrace
and you’re flying with wings of light
towards your chosen destination
at one with the joy of the ride
and the exhilaration of knowing you can.
There’s an energy carrying us all forward
and it doesn’t play by the rules
like a torrent or tornado
it sweeps everything before it
crashing through the flimsy fabric we’ve woven
to shelter meanings we’ve constructed
ripping away comfort and certainty
in the terrible chaos of its power.
Can you feel this force now surging through your body?
Sometimes just containing it seems a superhuman effort
as if all the waters of Earth and all the waters of the body
are in tumultuous motion
with waves crashing against stolid harbor walls
anchored deep in the earth for centuries
will these ancient guardians now hold up
against this new tide?
Sometimes it seems we are destined to be borne like flotsam
into the surging, volatile seas.
There is an energy in motion at this time
which takes hostages and demands human sacrifice
and from our limited human perspective this uncompromising power
with a will and destiny of its own may seem uncaring
as it moves relentlessly , breaking through all barriers
of time, belief and ordered thought
Can we welcome the embrace of this fierce Goddess?
I wrote this poem just before December 21st 2012 – the prophesied “End of Time”
