It’s Time to Rise
When I woke up on Wednesday morning and heard the news that Donald Trump had been re-elected as President of the US, my response was different to what I might have expected. I became very still and centred in a place of equilibrium and witnessing. There was no judgment, and for the following days there’s been no judgment arising in me, about anything. I hadn’t realised how agitated my mind had become until the noise stopped.
This is a peaceful, restful, natural place to be, and I’m reminded of another event back in December 2011, when the house in Golden Bay, New Zealand, where my friend Maggie and I lived, was damaged by flood and landslide, after three days of torrential rain, rendering us homeless. As soon as we saw the lawn behind the house undulating like a snake, and shrubs on the march beneath the window, we knew we were in danger. We both independently made a spontaneous decision and set an intention to use this crisis as an opportunity for transformation and to align with what is highest in us. Our decisions set in motion a beautiful demonstration of care and grace in which we were held in the arms of the community, and by the arms of the universe, as we picked our way through the shock and mud of homelessness.
One doesn’t state an intention like that in order to get something, it’s not a bargaining chip, rather a serious intention for transformation is an arising of the soul’s destiny. It is what we are here for. Extra-ordinary times, such as the death of a beloved or an international crisis can create an opening through which such an arising may be evoked.
When the mind is confronted by something it doesn’t understand, something beyond reason, something so much bigger than the self, something that cannot be controlled, we go into shock. And what is left – for those of us who are consciousness practitioners – is beginner’s mind. Herein lies the possibility for a new beginning, a place stripped clean of story.
So, on Wednesday, when I heard that a man who had incited a deadly riot on the centre of the US government, a crime that would be considered to be treason in this country, a man who is known to have committed sex crimes and been convicted of felonies, when I heard that a majority of the American people still want him to lead their country, my mind slipped out of the old paradigm story and left for good. I’m done. I will continue to witness the dramas as they unfold but I will not identity with the story of the patriarchs. I will not give my energy to such a story. I won’t live in fear and I won’t react. I AM NOT THAT.
When the Earth moved in 2011, Maggie and I both sensed that a door had swung open into the next evolution of our Soul Journey, which we had been eagerly waiting for years. Now, in November 2024, the gauntlet has been cast for the next unfolding of the human story. The roulette wheel is spinning, and the stakes could not be higher.
New beginnings await and we are mistaken if we think we do not have any power in the situation. Amidst all the real dangers, we each have choices to make. As a conscious healing practitioner, dedicated to a transformational path and Soul Journey, who do I choose to be in relation to the chaos and power-mongering ripping our world apart? How do I respond consciously to this?
My choice is to step up into my full spiritual power and to hold nothing back. And right now, my power lies not so much in action or making noise but in this quiet place of equilibrium and witnessing at the centre of my being. This is where I sit and await my directions.
And these are the first directions that have come to me:
-
Stay awake and alert
-
Trust
-
Be responsive and not reactive
-
Stay centred and grounded
-
Embody your values and speak your truth
-
Don’t waste energy trying to convince people who think differently
-
With-hold your energy from that with which you don’t resonate, direct it all to that with which you are in alignment
-
Don’t compare your path and experience with others, stay focussed on what you know you are here to do
-
Expand your love and consciousness
-
Go with the flow
-
Create the New.
And now, I’m going to dig compost into my garden. Have a beautiful week!
